Preparing For Your Photoshoot

Preparing For Your Photoshoot

For photoshoots with a baby not capable of sitting up:

  1. We split the photoshoot into two parts, half on white background, half on black background.
  2. We’ll take photos of the baby dressed and undressed on each background, so plan on two different outfits, one for each background.
  3. Any props, toys, or special mementos we can incorporate? The best rule is nothing larger than your hand. Check our website photo gallery for ideas!
  4. Choose baby blankets, one a light solid color (white or off white is best) and one or two cute or special blankets, such as knitted or crochet.
  5. We love to get you involved. We’ll take some photos with you kissing the baby, holding their hands and feet, as well as a family portrait if both parents can be there.
  6. If your little one’s under a month old and very small, we recommend having a Boppie, basket, hatbox–anything your baby could be swaddled and placed in.
  7. For babies 3 weeks or older, it’s best to have the baby awake and fed, or a bottle ready in case of hunger pangs!
  8. If twins or triplets, we recommend you ask another adult to assist with your babies.

For photoshoots including siblings:

  1. It’s important to get some individuals of your older children–helps avoid the jealousy factor.
  2. Any special toys, hobbies, books that show what’s currently important to the child? We’d love to incorporate those items as well.

For photoshoots including a baby 6 months to 1 year old:

  1. We split the photoshoot into two parts, half on white background, half on black background.
  2. Select an outfit for each background, and/or we can get some cute, chubby photos featuring just the diaper.
  3. Any siblings, we’ll photograph them individually and together.
  4. Find a light-colored solid blanket to cover the table, white or off-white is best.
  5. Props make a great photoshoot even more special–consider providing books, balls, stuffed animals, dolls, trucks, etc. (6-8 different is ideal).
  6. Keep a drool cloth ready as the baby is usually teething at this age.

For photoshoots including toddler age or older children:

  1. We split the photoshoot into two parts, half on white background, half on black background.
  2. Select an outfit for each background, and if you choose, we can also feature a third outfit.
  3. Any siblings, we’ll photograph them individually and together.
  4. Find a light color solid blanket to cover the table, white or off-white is best.
  5. Props can make a great photoshoot even more special—consider providing books, balls, stuffed animals, dolls, trucks, etc. (6-8 different is ideal).
  6. Keep a drool cloth ready as children are teething at this age.
  7. You may provide items such as buckets, baskets, wagons–anything cute that we can safely photograph with your little one.

For family photoshoots:

  1. We’ll provide memorable portraits of your family. If children will be among those photographed, please review the appropriate section(s) above with regard to their age ranges to make sure you’re ready for a great photoshoot!
  2. If you want to include extended family members, we may need to do multiple smaller group shots, since our backdrop is only able to accommodate up to 6 people.

For photoshoots including outdoor images:

  1. Because we can control the lighting and weather indoors, we’ll do those first. Once we’ve completed the indoor portraits, we’ll head outside and do some more.
  2. The best location for outdoor photographs is in an open, shaded area and not in direct sunlight. This avoid shadows and closed eyes, as well serving as a nice background for the portraits.
  3. We’ll be sure to include family portraits and individual shots of the kids as well.
